The performance of a computer (PC) or laptop will decrease over time. Especially if there are lots of useless files or documents in the storage memory.
To keep your laptop and computer running properly, it is recommended that you regularly clean disks or storage from “junk” files. Well, to maintain and clean the disk on a laptop, there are a few tricks that can be done.
Here are 5 ways to clean disks on laptops and PCs with Windows 10 operating system.
Remove temporary junk with the Disk Cleanup feature
The first thing you can do is clean your computer’s storage space from junk files with the “Disk Cleanup” feature. This feature can be accessed by visiting the Start menu, then typing the keyword “disk cleanup”, and then pressing Enter.
On the next page, you will see a list of unnecessary files that Windows can clean up. Select which storage you want to clean and click the “OK” button. Then, select any files you want to clean by giving a “tick” in the box provided. After that, click “OK” and “Delete Files”. This process can be done regularly to make media storage space more spacious.
Be careful, to delete downloaded files and the Recycle Bin, because it could be that you have some important files in that folder . You can delete the data in the Recycle Bin if you are sure you do not need any recoverable data in that folder.
Deleting Large Files
Apart from deleting temporary files, users can also clean Windows 10 by finding old data that is no longer important. These data are usually ignored and fill the hard drive on the user’s computer. To delete these data, users can download the TreeSize Free application. This application can scan and show where the largest files are on the laptop.
After installing TreeSize open the application and select “Directory” at the top left and select your main storage disk . Later, you will see a breakdown of PC storage with the largest files at the top. You can drag the drop-down arrow in any folder to view the data as a whole. There the user can choose which files to delete.
Uninstall large applications
Users can also delete large applications that often take up storage space. To do this, open the Settings menu, then select the Application option. After that, select the Applications & Features option for which applications can be deleted.
Clean bloatware applications
Bloatware is a built-in application that comes installed when installing an operating system. Bloatware is also found in the Windows 10 operating system. The difference with ordinary applications, bloatware cannot be found in the “Apps and Features” menu like normal Windows applications.
Most of these applications are rarely used by users and only take up storage space. You can immediately open the “Start” menu and then right click on the mouse. After that an option will appear to remove the application from the computer.
If you want a faster way, users can take advantage of the “Reset This PC” option available in the “Recovery Settings” menu. However, by using this option, the computer will return to its original state and all saved documents will be lost. If you use this option, the bloatware application that has been removed will also return to normal.
You can go to “Settings” then “Update & Security” and select Recovery then select “Reset PC”.
