Windows 10 -based computers and laptops are usually turned off by hovering the mouse pointer or touchpad at the Shut Down icon in the Start menu. But what if the touchpad is in trouble and you don’t have a mouse when it happens? Take it easy, the computer or laptop can still be turned off with several keyboard key combinations.
The first key combination is Alt + F4, which can also be used to close any open application windows. After closing all application windows, press this key combination once again. A pop up menu will appear providing shutdown options on the screen. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the desired option.
The second key combination you can try is Ctrl + Alt + Del which will bring up the Task Manager menu on the screen. The icon to turn off the computer in the lower right corner can be selected by pressing the Tab key or the up arrow key.
Third, you can press Windows + X key combination. This will bring up a menu in the lower left corner of the screen. Select the “Shut down or sign out” option with the arrow keys, then select “Shut Down”.
You can also shut down the computer via the Start menu by pressing the Windows key. Press the Tab key as the selection column slider. Then, once the selection is in the column parallel to the power icon, move the selection towards that icon. Then press enter, and select the “Shutdown” option if you want to turn off your computer.
Apart from using a keyboard key combination , you can also turn off Windows 10 by pressing the power button on your physical laptop or computer.
Previously, make sure this button will carry out the function in question by opening Power Options in the Control Panel. Select the “Choose what the power button does” option in the tab on the left side of the window.
Then, in the drop down menu that appears, choose what the computer will do when you press the power button. Apart from turning off your device, you can also choose to put your computer into sleep or hibernation mode .
