There could be a few reasons why the body of an email is not appearing in Outlook. The email may not have been downloaded from the server, the message may be corrupt, or there may be a problem with the email account settings. If the body of an email is not appearing, try downloading the message again or checking the account settings.

Check your email formatting

When you send an email, the recipient’s email program determines how to display the message. The message may not display correctly if the email program uses a different character set than the one you used, or if the email program doesn’t support HTML.

To avoid potential problems with the way your email displays, check your email formatting. In most email programs, you can do this by opening the message in the “Message” or “Compose” view, and then selecting “Format” from the “Options” menu.

If the message looks fine in the “Message” or “Compose” view, but the body of the email is not showing up in Outlook, there are a few things you can try:

– First, check the email program’s settings to make sure that it is set to display HTML email.

– If the email program is set to display HTML email, but the message still isn’t displaying correctly, try sending the message in plain text. To do this, open the message in the “Message” or “Compose” view, and then select “Format” from the “Options” menu. In the “Format” drop-down menu, select “Plain Text.”

– Finally, if the message is still not displaying correctly in Outlook, try saving the message as an .htm or .html file, and then opening the file in a web browser.

Try using a different email client

If you use Microsoft Outlook as your email client, you may have noticed that the body of some emails is not visible. 

One reason the body of an email may not be visible in Outlook is because the message is in plain text format. select the Mail tab and scroll down to the Composing and reading section.  

It’s also possible that the problem is with your email account settings. Select your email account and click Change

If you’re still having trouble, it’s worth trying a different email client. Some good options include Mozilla Thunderbird and Apple Mail. These programs may work better with your particular email account.

Check your email account settings

If you are not receiving the body of email messages in Outlook, it is most likely due to a misconfiguration in your email account settings. Simply verify that your account settings are accurate to solve the issue. If the issue persists, you might need to ask your email provider for more help.

Contact your email service provider

If you’re not seeing the body of an email in Outlook, it could be because the message is in plain text format or because you have an add-in that is interfering with the way emails are displayed. 

When you contact your email service provider, be sure to include the following information:

The name of the email service you’re using (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo,

The name and version of the email program you’re using (e.g., Outlook 2016)

A description of the problem you’re experiencing (e.g., “I can see the email’s subject line and sender, but the body of the message is blank”)

Your email service provider should be able to help you troubleshoot the problem and get your email messages displaying correctly in Outlook.


When you compose a new email in Outlook, the message body may be hidden behind the Subject line. You can unintentionally click on the Subject line, which would cause the body field to vanish. To fix this, simply click on the body of the message and the field will reappear.
